SOPA PIPA Anonymous Anon lololol good luck to you

Y’know what I think is absolutely hilarious about the idea of SOPA and PIPA legislation?

The idea that a bunch of suits born and raised anywhere from 1 to 4 generations before ours think they can honestly beat us in a war for the Internet.

Remember this quote?

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn’t understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.”

You’re goddamn right it’s an experiment in anarchy. You can’t control what you can’t understand. We’re the ones who grew up using it. We’re the ones who grew up learning how to manipulate it to our personal will.

And you honestly think that your government-sponsored so called hackers are any match whatsoever for the organization known solely as Anonymous?

We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. To the United States government: You should have expected us.

For a country that complains about how lazy, apathetic, and disorganised its youth is, said youth gave you plenty of fair warning.

You crammed your beliefs and your archaic ideals and your “moral compasses” down our throats because we had absolutely no way of crawling out from beneath your thumbs — and then you gave us access to the internet.

To literally millions of other people just like us — just as intelligent, just as discontent, and just as ready to make much-needed changes in the world we’re about to inherit.

You thought that all of the nights we were up late and the only light to be seen came from our computer screens that we weren’t doing anything but fulfilling the stereotype of all teenagers and young adults in this generation — did you ever for even a second thing that we might be doing something worthwhile?

Because we were.

We were finding ways of rebelling against a world that was too small to contain us, by whatever means necessary. See, we were happy just pirating music, or film, or literature, because those things allowed us to more comfortably remain hidden in the hole in cyberspace each of us has made for ourselves.

You really should have let us continue on as we were.

Because now that we’ve had all this time to understand our place in an “adult’s” world, now that we’ve given you all a chance to see what we’re doing online and what you’ve failed to pay attention to all these years, it’s too late.

Too late for you to reverse the effects of what you’ve done, too late for your half-assed apologies and your disingenuous political appearances, too late for you to have any hopes of placating us.

Now you’re beginning to see what we’re capable of.

Now you’re beginning to see that you should have listened to us while you still had the chance.

I feel sorry for you — I really, truly do.

You’re finally learning what it means for a government to be afraid of its people — which is just as it should be.

I’ve come across Anonymous hundreds of times in the last few years, and I have absolute faith in their ability to carry out their purpose and ensure that we’re heard, understood, and at long last, respected.

Good luck to all you SOPA/PIPA supporters.

You’re going to need it.
